Don’t Miss the World

It is often that we become so distracted with our own goals, feelings, and ambitions that we misplace the importance of our own friends and families. When we become consumed with what we want, we do not notice what is around us. We are not present. In these moments, when people try to get our attention it bounces off of us and goes the other way.

On a grand scale, this is wrong because we are not focusing on how we can learn and give to other people. Life is not all about us, which anyone with a thriving relationship with someone else will tell you. To be even more practical, we are missing the simple joys of other people.

In a time of hurry and business with our own considerations, we may fail to notice that the people trying to get our attention are actually trying to help us. While we feel that we are distracted by them, they are intending to serve us. It could be an encouraging comment, a warm hug, or an act of service, and while we strive for our ambitions we fail to recognize any of them. In this, we are not only hurting the other person, we are hurting ourselves. For perhaps that person is trying to remind us of what we need to know in those moments: we need each other. Life is worse off alone, and no matter what you do and where you go, relationships are at the center of it all. Miss this, and you miss the world.
